      What Is Thermal Runaway

      When it comes to the definition of battery's thermal runaway phenomenon, it is the major risk that one of the cells inside the module or system is out of control and generate heat by itself. After that, this will lead to smoke, fire, gas leakage and particulates coming out. Generally, the single cell is able to dissipate the heat but except for the thermal runway situation. In that, the lithium cell could have more chances of generating heat vloume than the heat dissipating one.

      How To Prevent Thermal Runaway In Batteries

      Thermal runaway is a risk for damaging batteries. So we should know to prevent this happening. When a cell's temperature increases at a ramp rate over 20 degrees centigrade per minute, then it is in a thermal runaway situation. So don't let battery expoure to the extreme high temperature for a long time.

      Thermal Runaway Test In IEC 62619

      Nowadays, more and more researchers would like to do the thermal runaway test for the batteries that don't roll out in the market. By doing this, they can find some unexpected fault and potential risks in advance so that these new batteries can be improved on time. In the standard of IEC 62619, it has three way to triggle thermal runaway on the battery as below shown:

      1) Heating.

      To heating one of the single cell inside the module or system.

      2) Charging and discharging

      Charge and discharge the battery

      3) Nail Penetration

      Do nail penetration on the battery to triggle thermal runaway.

      Choosing A Reliable Thermal Runaway Machine
